How to save money on diamond earrings

1.91K 0

A subtler way to wear diamonds than a solitaire pendant or tennis bracelet is an understated pair of earrings. These still don’t come cheap, but there are a few ways you can make sure you’re saving as much money on them as you can.

  1. Choose a lower quality stone

This is a good option if you’re buying for yourself (since you know what you consider too low quality) or if you’re buying stud earrings, as with stud earrings they are so small that nobody is likely to spot when the stones do not have perfect clarity. Similarly, choosing a perfectly colourless diamond is less important with earrings; diamonds take on the colour of the metal they are set in and what surrounds them (such as hair) and earrings are surrounded by so many different colours to start with that having one that’s perfectly colourless isn’t as important.

  1. Choose the right cut

The way a diamond sparkles is partly determined by the quality of the stone, it’s true – but the bulk of the work is done by the way the stone is cut. A stone finished with a ‘brilliant cut’ will give the most sparkle, so buying a cheaper pair of earrings with stones cut in this way will save you money without dampening the attractive glittery quality of diamond jewellery too much. This is probably the most important thing to keep in mind because as long as you haven’t gone for extremely low-quality stones a good cut will hide all manner of sins.

  1. Choose a cheaper metal

Other than allergy considerations (which aren’t so much of an issue with high-end metals), when it comes to earrings the type of metal used doesn’t matter a huge amount as it is largely hidden by the stones themselves. This means you can select a pair with a cheaper metal. Titanium for example is much cheaper than any precious metals, and of the precious metals, silver is going to be much cheaper than say platinum or gold. This is an area where you can make a real saving.

  1. Go to a reputable jewellers

High-quality diamond jewellery is always going to come with quite a heavy price tag, but going to a reliable jeweller who is properly accredited, like abelini jewellery or Helzberg Diamonds, could save you a lot of money. Dishonest jewellers will overcharge for low-quality stones and craftsmanship, and you won’t get your money’s worth – a proper jeweller will give a fair price.

If you keep these tips in mind, then you will walk away happy with a beautiful pair of diamond earrings you can be confident you paid the right amount for.
